OpenITP provides material support to free and open source software projects that make tools for circumventing digital surveillance and censorship.
Our focus is small, targeted grants designed to:
- incubate new, promising, and perhaps risky projects with large potential value
- improve the usability of projects to end users
- increase interoperability between projects
- accomplish goals they would not ordinarily achieve because these goals are not the core focus or competency of a project
We recently closed our first round of grant funding are in the process of capturing the results so we can improve future rounds of giving. Our first round fundee projects were Briar, the Guardian Project, Obfsproxy, Telex, and EFF.
